Brisbane Races – Doomben:

Brisbane’s picturesque Doomben racecourse is situated in Ascot approximately seven kilometres outside of the city centre and is often referred to as the ‘Garden’ course. The track has been conducting some of Brisbane’s best races since 1933 and hosts its premier series of race meetings during May each year as part of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. Showcase events at the Doomben carnival that attract a huge crowd of punters and racing fans include the Group 1 Doomben 10 000 (1350m), which is the second richest race during the carnival worth $650 000, and the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m).

As well as the major winter races, Doomben also runs a Summer Racing Carnival in December and January each season that features the prestigious City Pacific Finance Summer Series. The highlight event of the summer season in Brisbane is the Group 3 $200 000 George Moore Stakes (1200m). This quality handicap event is held on the same day as the Listed Doomben Stakes (1350m) and the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m).

Brisbane’s second central racecourse, Eagle Farm, is also located in Ascot and is the city’s oldest and most prestigious track, having run its first race meeting back in 1865.
